AppFolio, Inc. was founded in 2006 by Klaus Schauser and Jon Walker with the mission to revolutionize the way small and medium-sized businesses grow and compete by providing powerful software and services to help enable their digital transformation.

Our easy-to-use, cloud-based software helps our customers more effectively market, manage and grow their business.

With offices in Santa Barbara, Dallas and San Diego, our business is built for long-term success and is fueled by happy and loyal customers and a team of AppFolians who value and contribute to our great culture every day.

2006

AppFolio, Inc. Opens its Doors in Santa Barbara

Klaus Schauser and Jon Walker form AppFolio, Inc. with a vision to revolutionize the way small and medium-sized businesses grow and compete by offering software, best practices and technology designed for specific vertical markets.

2007

We Sign Our First Oar

In preparation for the inaugural rafting trip, newly-appointed CEO Brian Donahoo crafts our first celebratory oar — in his garage. A tradition is launched: we've now signed 21 oars.

2008

Our First Product is Launched

We launch our first cloud product, AppFolio Property Manager, giving property managers the tools they need to modernize their business.

2009

The Debut of Hack Day

The AppFolio Engineering team hosts a 24-hour hackathon to encourage innovation, creativity and collaboration. Today, we host numerous Hack Days annually.

2010

Texas Office Opens

AppFolio, Inc. opens a second location, this time in Dallas to support our growing team.

2011

AppFolio Property Manager Goes Mobile

AppFolio Property Manager Mobile hits the market, making work-from-anywhere property management a reality.

2012

AppFolio Enters the Legal Market

AppFolio, Inc. acquires MyCase, a legal practice management software, to help attorneys manage cases from anywhere in the world.

2012

San Diego Office Opens

Our third location — and closest to the beach — opens in San Diego to support our growing MyCase team.

2013

We're 100% Customer Focused

Our first annual customer conference is held in Santa Barbara hosting AppFolio Property Manager customers from around the nation.

2015

We Go Public

AppFolio gets listed on NASDAQ with our public company debut.

Jason Randall, President and Chief Executive Officer

Jason Randall is the President and Chief Executive Officer of AppFolio. With a clear look to the future, Jason's focus is on building a successful company, cultivating a thriving team and ensuring we deliver solutions that provide great impact to our customers' businesses.

Jason joined the AppFolio team in 2008 as Vice President, Product, AppFolio Property Manager, a cloud-based software that serves the property management industry. From 2014 to 2016 he served as the Senior Vice President of MyCase, the AppFolio practice and case management software that serves the legal industry. Most recently, Jason served as Senior Vice President, AppFolio Property Manager.

Prior to joining AppFolio, Jason served as the Senior Director of Product Management at Citrix Online (merged with LogMeIn, Inc.) and held senior positions in product development at other private SaaS companies.

Jason received a B.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. When not working, Jason spends time with his wife and three daughters, hiking the Santa Barbara foothills, or with friends homebrewing beer.

Klaus Schauser, Chief Strategist and Founder

Klaus Schauser is Founder and Chief Strategist for AppFolio. In 2006, Klaus, along with Jon Walker, founded AppFolio with the mission to revolutionize the way small and medium-sized businesses grow and compete by enabling their digital transformation. Today Klaus brings his enthusiasm, leadership and experience to the team as he validates vertical market offerings and sets the strategy for the future.

Prior to AppFolio, Klaus co-founded Citrix Online (merged with LogMeIn, Inc.) providers of secure, easy-to-use cloud-based solutions that enable people to work from anywhere with anyone. From 1999 through 2006, Klaus served as Chief Technology Officer and was the visionary behind GoToMyPC, GoToAssist, and GoToMeeting. He led the teams responsible for building the products and their secure, reliable SaaS infrastructure.

As a Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Klaus is a widely-published research scientist with extensive experience developing scalable, highly parallel computing environments.

Klaus holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and has received numerous academic awards. When he's not sharing his vision, you can find him outdoors hiking or stand-up paddleboarding.

Jon Walker, Chief Technology Officer and Founder

Jon Walker is Founder and Chief Technology Officer for AppFolio. In 2006, Jon, along with Klaus Schauser, founded AppFolio with the mission to revolutionize the way small and medium-sized businesses grow and compete enabling their digital transformation. An entrepreneur at heart, Jon is responsible for technology and works with Klaus to validate new vertical markets for expansion.

Prior to AppFolio, Jon led engineering development and quality assurance teams as the CTO of Versora (now part of Kaseya), providers of open source Windows to Linux migration software, and for Miramar Systems (sold to Computer Associates).

The software developed under his direction has been deployed to over 20 million computers worldwide. Jon also served as Senior Technologist for Nortel Networks and Xing Technology Inc. (sold to Real Networks), a contributing editor to LinuxWorld Magazine, and he is the inventor of multiple patents. Jon has also taught computer science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Westmont College.

Jon holds a B.S. from Westmont College. In his spare time, you can find Jon coaching on the basketball court, a passion he discovered in college.

Ida Kane, Chief Financial Officer

Ida Kane is Chief Financial Officer for AppFolio. Ida is responsible for AppFolio's financial strategy as well as legal and administrative operations. Her team works closely with all departments to ensure the company grows quickly and stays on track with our financial plan.

Previously, Ida served as CFO of Rightscale, Inc., a leader in cloud portfolio management. Before Rightscale, Ida served as CFO and Sr. Vice President of NASDAQ-listed thinkorswim Group Inc., a leading online brokerage and investor education firm. Ida has held various executive-level financial and operational management positions for other publicly-traded and private companies including, a divisional CFO and Vice President of Operations at FranklinCovey.

Ida received her B.S. and MBA degrees in accounting from the University of Miami, Florida, and earned her CPA license from the State of Florida. When Ida isn't leading the company's financial strategy she's likely running a marathon or enjoying the trails of Santa Barbara.

Kim Coalson, Senior Vice President, MyCase

Kim Coalson is Senior Vice President for MyCase, the AppFolio practice and case management software that serves the legal industry. Kim ensures that the MyCase team delivers an outstanding customer experience and provides software that supports the success of solo practitioners and small law firms.

Kim joined the AppFolio team in 2011 as Vice President, Value Added Services for AppFolio Property Manager, where she played an instrumental role in defining, launching and growing key customer services. Prior to AppFolio, Kim served as Vice President of Marketing for Mindflash.com, from 2008 to 2010, where she was responsible for customer acquisition, web presence and customer research. She also held a number of positions at Citrix Online (merged with LogMeIn, Inc.) between 2001 and 2008, including Director, Business Analysis, and Director, Customer Insights.

Kim received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. On weekends, you can find Kim at the barn or on the Santa Barbara trails riding with her equine partner, Tracker.

Aimee Miller, Chief Marketing Officer

Aimee Miller is Chief Marketing Officer for AppFolio. Aimee leads the marketing strategy and programs that drive awareness, demand and customer engagement for AppFolio.

Aimee joined the AppFolio team in 2009 as the Vice President of Marketing for AppFolio. Prior to AppFolio, she was the Sr. Director of Field Marketing at Citrix Online (merged with LogMeIn, Inc.), leading the planning and implementation of all corporate demand generation activities for the global sales organization. At Citrix Online, she also served as Director of Key Account Management, where she created the customized marketing and management program for strategic customers. Previously, Aimee also held marketing and product management roles at Digital Island (purchased by Cable and Wireless) throughout the company's high-growth years.

Aimee received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a California native and enjoys spending time outside in the beautiful Santa Barbara climate.

Amy Meyer, Chief People Officer

Amy Meyer is Chief People Officer for AppFolio. Amy leads AppFolio's human resources functions, partnering with leaders throughout the organization to attract, develop and retain the right people for our growing company.

Prior to AppFolio, Amy was the Vice President of Human Resources at Citrix Systems where she was responsible for the company's human resources business partners, talent acquisition, talent management and all HR aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Prior to this role, Amy served as the Vice President of Human Resources, over the product divisions at Citrix, and acted as the Human Resource Director for the Asia Pacific region. Before joining Citrix, Amy was Director of Human Resources at Openwave Systems, serving in several divisional and corporate HR roles.

Amy earned a B.S. in Bio-Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and completed the Advanced Human Resources Executive Program at the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business. When not at the office, you can find Amy playing soccer, hiking with her Labrador Retrievers or traveling.
